My Tutoring Services

I provide 1:1 literacy tutoring to students of all ages. When students experience challenges with literacy, it affects every part of their school day and can erode their confidence and enthusiasm for learning. My goal is not only to strengthen the literacy skills of my students, but also to build their confidence through positive, engaging, and motivating instruction. 

Utilizing the proven EBLI methodology, students will "crack the code" of our complex language as they develop essential literacy skills including phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, spelling, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and handwriting. 

What does a tutoring session look like?

Tutoring sessions are held at my home office in Mahtomedi, MN or online using the Koala Go platform. Students will move through a variety of highly interactive EBLI based activities during a 50 minute session. In one session, students may spend time with activities such as word sorting, sound segmenting or blending, passage reading, and descriptive writing. Books of high interest to your child will be utilized to increase their literacy skills and love of reading. As students progress through the EBLI material, they may choose to move into the Word Mapping Project curriculum, bringing life to words through explicit instruction and practice in vocabulary and morphology. 

What is EBLI?

EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction) is a structured linguistic literacy methodology that is "grounded in research and proven in practice." Your student will be taught how our language code works in a structured, explicit way, connecting speech sounds to the letters that represent those sounds and strengthening the pathways in the brain that make reading possible. 

Who is able to access tutoring?

I tutor students of all ages who are struggling with one or more aspects of literacy. Students may have multiple diagnoses such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and ADHD, but a diagnosis is not necessary to access tutoring services. Students are met where they are and lessons are individualized according to the needs of your student.
